Monitoring & Evaluation

Monitoring and
Evaluation

Monitoring and evaluation of programs is a process that allows policymakers and program managers to assess how an intervention evolves over time (monitoring); how effectively a program was implemented and whether there are gaps between the planned and achieved results (evaluation); and whether the changes in well-being are due to the program and to the program alone (impact evaluation).

The purpose of monitoring and evaluation is to see how the program addresses your outcome(s) of interest; understand whether your program has been implemented with a reasonable level of fidelity; identify areas for improvement, training, or adaptation; justify to stakeholders and funders that the program is effective; and determine whether you may want to expand, cut, or abandon the program.
